Application For Emeritus Status of Medical License

Things to Know Before You Begin

  1. Emeritus licensure status is restricted to active physicians whose license is in good standing and has practiced medicine in Maryland for at least 10 years.
  2. Applicants must meet the requirements for the emeritus status.
  3. Applicants must complete the screening questions and the online application.
  4. Applicants must submit the payment of the Application review and processing fee of $120.
  5. If the application is approved, the emeritus status will be valid for 3 renewal cycles and will display on the Board's website in the public profile. For example, if the license expires 09/30/2023, the emeritus license status will expire 09/30/2029.
  6. There are no refunds if the Board determines that the applicant does not qualify for the emeritus status.

Emeritus Status Eligibility

Please answer the screening questions carefully. If the Board reviews your application and determines that you are ineligible for an Emeritus License Status, you will not receive a refund. The application fee will be retained by the Board to cover the expense and time of staff review.
