Things to Know Before Reinstatement
- Did you get fingerprinted? A criminal history records check is required by law in Maryland. Completing your background check BEFORE you begin will expedite the licensure process. Click CHRC Instructions for details.
- Who may use the online reinstatement application? A physician whose license has expired for any reason may reinstate their license using the online reinstatement application.
- Who may NOT use the online reinstatement application?
- A physician whose license has been revoked, surrendered, or suspended may not use the online application to reinstate. Contact lisa.dorsey@maryland.gov to request a paper application.
- A physician with an expired conceded eminence license may not use the online application to reinstate. The physician must apply again for a conceded eminence license.
The fee to reinstate a medical license is $700.
Physicians must upload proof of 50 Category I or II CME credits in a 2-year period, with at least 25 of those CME credit hours being Category 1 within the 2-year period preceding the date of the submission of the reinstatement application. Please have this documentation available before you begin the online reinstatement. The requirements for reinstating a license include but are not limited to:
- Completing the Board's online reinstatement application.
- Paying the $700 reinstatement fee.
- Earning 50 Category I CMEs within the two years preceding the application submission.
- Completing a criminal history records check. The Board recommends that applicants submit fingerprints no earlier than six weeks before completing their application for reinstatement.
