Sense of Balance

This is a videotape presentation on drugs, chronic pain, and related subjects including appropriate prescribing of controlled drugs, over prescribing, the addicted physician and identifying the drug seeking patient. Viewers examine cases brought before the Board which deal with pain related issues to develop an understanding of the Board’s position on these issues.

Produced in 1998, this video presents the position of the Maryland Medical Board as well as that of the Federation of State Medical Boards on prescribing to patients with pain.

Crossing the Line

The program addresses topics including the balance of power in a physician/patient relationship, the patient who makes unethical requests, as well as appropriate office atmosphere. The purpose of the video is to educate and remind physicians and other health care professionals of boundary issues. This 18 minute, closed caption tape includes vignettes demonstrating the situations which could become potential problems and should stimulate the audience to begin thinking about danger signals.

This first video, produced in 1996, examines boundary violations.

Patient / Physician Relationship

This video explains the process an individual should follow when selecting a physician, what to expect from a physician in medical treatment, the responsibilities of a patient when visiting a physician and what procedure to follow to file a complaint with MBP if the patient believed that the physician did not provide adequate medical care.

Produced in 1997 following the Report of the Maryland Task Force to Study Health Professional-Client Sexual Exploitation which recommended education programs for the citizens about the issue.
