Sexual Misconduct

The Maryland Board of Physicians (the “Board”) is committed to protecting the health and safety of all patients. Sexual misconduct by a physician or other licensed healthcare professional is a serious violation of professional ethics, state law, and patient trust. The Board investigates all allegations thoroughly and takes appropriate disciplinary action when warranted.

What is Sexual Misconduct?

Sexual misconduct includes any behavior that exploits the provider-patient relationship. It may involve physical, verbal, or electronic communication and can occur during or outside of clinical encounters.

How to Report Sexual Misconduct

The Board accepts complaints from patients, family members, healthcare staff, and the public. Complaints may be submitted anonymously, but providing contact information and a detailed account assists the Board conduct a more complete investigation.


Filing a Complaint to the Board

The Board has the authority to investigate a complaint of a violation of the Maryland Medical Practice Act as it relates to health care professionals it regulates. Anyone may file a complaint with the Board.


What to Include in a Complaint

  • The name of healthcare provider
  • Dates and locations of the incident(s)
  • A description of what occurred
  • Any documents, messages, or supporting materials
  • Names of witnesses, if applicable
