Please note, that due to the complexity of the reciprocal licensing requirements, and the time required for the applicant and the Maryland Board of Physicians (the Board) in researching past licensure requirements, the Board encourages applicants to complete the
Initial Medical Licensure application or apply for a medical license through the
Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. To date, the Board has not issued any licenses by reciprocity due to applicants not meeting the licensing requirements.
**PLEASE NOTE** Applicants must contact the jurisdiction of his or her licensure to check on the requirements before contacting the Maryland Board of Physicians regarding eligibility for licensure by reciprocity.
Set forth below are the eligibility requirements for initial medical licensure by reciprocity:
- Applicant must have an active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in another jurisdiction that, at the time of your licensing, had licensure requirements substantially equivalent to the current licensure requirements of the Maryland Board of Physicians. Please refer to COMAR 10.32.01.03.
- That same state jurisdiction currently offers a similar reciprocal licensure process to physicians licensed by the Maryland Board.
If after completing the above steps, you believe you may qualify for licensure by reciprocity, please contact the Board by email regarding your eligibility:
